Eyes are the window to the soul. All rejuvenating procedures aim to refocus attention on the eyes. A full upper eye is associated with youthful plenty.
Why does the upper eye appear hollow?
Diminished volume to the upper lid can follow blepharoplasty (excessive ablation of the skin or fatty tissue), or just be due to ageing, as shown below.
This photo shows :
– The fall of the inner edge and side of the eyebrow.
– The appearance of a sunken eye due to sinking fatty tissue around the upper socket and the ‘withdrawal’ of the upper eye socket bone.
– The upper eye socket bone appears higher as it withdraws.
Aesthetic medicine and solutions for hollowed out eyes
This treatment involves filling out the upper lid using hyaluronic acid injections. However, other treatments are also required to get the best result. These include :
-Fractional ablative, CO2 or Erbium laser
Rejuvenation and densification of the skin around the upper lid using Fractional ablative, CO2 or Erbium laser.
– Hyaluronic acid and botox
Lifting and supporting the eyebrow by using botulinum toxin or botox injections to block the two downward motion muscles (the eyelid’s orbicular and corrugator muscles). The hollows are then filled with hyaluronic acid.
Supporting and reinforcing the external canthus (the outer edge of the eye) using hyaluronic acid injections.
Filling hollow temples using hyaluronic acid injections.
Treatment of hollow eye
The injection is administered in my office. It does not require anaesthetic as this is really quite painless. The entry point depends on the practitioner’s technique. I tend to administer the injection to the outer edge of the eyebrow.
Once the canula is introduced, hyaluronic acid is administered along the eye socket. The amount of product has to be carefully controlled in order to avoid a terrible result.
This requires a firm, non-hydrophilic product. I use Restylane.
Hyaluronic acid injections are the suitable solution when the loss of volume to the upper eye area is due to retracting bones around the socket, or sinking fatty tissue in this area.
Risks, side effects and results to using hyaluronic acid to fill the upper eye area
The practitioner must have mastered the technique, and few doctors have done so. Risks include an irregular result, damage to key features, or excessive filling.
Results are immediate and last for about two years.
