How aesthetic medicine corrects gummy smiles (gingival smile)

1 (2)

Gummy smiles, or gingival smile, are smiles which expose the gums. They are treated by injections.
Different degrees of severity are shown on scales.
Standardised scale for gummy smile severity (gingival smile).

POSSIBLE TREATMENTS

2 (2)

Injections

A gummy smile is caused by a hyperactive lifting or ‘elevator’ muscle in the upper lip. This raises the upper lip too much when we smile.
Injections  allow us to reduce the upper lip’s elevator muscle’s hyperactivity.

Injection is the suitable solution as soon as a gummy smile starts to be a problem for the individual.
There are no side effects.
The practitioner must have mastered the technique.
